The Bishop David Evans Monument Project

Clay Maquette of the Bishop David Evans Statue

Bishop David Evans Bronze Statue

Work has begun on the Bishop David Evans Statue!  Our commissioned sculptor, Jonathan Bronson, has finished the maquette (a small clay model of the planned sculpture) and is now beginning work on the life size statue.  The statue has the approval and enthusiasm of Lehi City officials and will be placed in a prominent location within the city by June 23, 2001, the date set for the Grand Gathering and Statue Dedication.

It’s now time to begin our fund raising efforts in earnest.  The cost of the statue is $40,000.  Work has already begun with several interested family members having already contributed.  Our goal is to raise the entire $40,000 by December 31, 1999.

In 1972 there were less than 6,000 David Evans descendants.  Today there is at least three times that number.  With everyone’s help we can reach our goal!  Any contribution from dollars to thousands of dollars will be happily accepted and appreciated.  No amount is too small.

Lehi City has created a special account, the Lehi City David Evans Memorial Fund, where all donated statue funds will be deposited.  The number for this account is 70-30-91.  You may mail or deliver your contributions to Marilyn Nielsen at 172 West 400 South, Lehi, Utah 84043 or directly to Lehi City at 153 North 100 East, Lehi, Utah 84043.  Each donation will be receipted by Lehi City and may be used as a tax-deductible charitable contribution.

We hope you will feel generous in your donation as you contemplate the impact the Bishop David Evans Statue can have on you, your family, visitors to Lehi, and citizens in the community.  Local school children will also be able to visit the statue and learn of their western pioneer heritage.  As one of Lehi’s founding father, the statue is an appropriate way to honor the memory of Bishop David Evans and the remarkable contribution he made in helping to establish the mountain west.

A donation form was included in the Bishop David Evans Family Association Newsletter Spring 1999 mailed recently to descendants we have been able to contact.  The form from this newsletter can also be downloaded in the document below.

Bishop David Evans Bronze Maquette

Pictured on this page is the clay maquette, a small model of the life size statue of Bishop David Evans.  He is shown holding a carpenter’s square in his right hand and a pocket compass in his extended left hand.  These were the tools (along with a line tape) used to lay out the first 16 blocks and streets of Lehi.

The sculptor has agreed to make an individually numbered bronze maquette available to interested descendants for the very reasonable price of $495.00.  He has also agreed to donate $50.00 of that price to the Lehi City David Evans Memorial Fund in the name of the purchaser.

The bronze maquettes are made individually and a deposit of $200.00 is necessary to begin production.  The final payment of $295.00 would be due upon completion 60 to 90 days later.  Shipping costs will be added where applicable and Utah residents must add $31.00 sales tax.  Those interested in a bronze maquette should contact Melvin Anderson at Mel’s Supply (801) 768-3519 or at home (801) 768-9926.
